hopeful friday

today's dare is brought to you by the wonderful ranjini @ scrapologie. i've had the pleasure of knowing ranjini for my whole scrapping life - just over one year now. she has an amazing heart and beautiful personality. she is building a business on her own in an effort to be able to stay home and not return to the 9-5 work force. you go girl! thank you so much for sponsoring us this month, r. you put together a pretty awesome product :)

as for this week's dare theme...hope.
the four of us decided over a week ago to dedicate this dare to two amazing people many of us know. they suffered a great loss...two great losses, in fact, in a very short period of time. despite adversity, these two women persevere, giving and sharing and continuing on. able to see the silver lining. i especially appreciate having a friend when i was having a hard time...even when she was suffering so much.

we love you. thank you for your strength of spirit and infectious goodness.

oh and also some shopping because i promised missy i would have a photo for her in the morning...

patterened paper (lots of dots!)
heidi swapp (did i mention 50% off???)
paper salon monogram builder stamps
technique tuesdays functuation and lil alphas
puffy paint stuff
a new pen
glue lines
sei iron-ons
super cute making memories itty bitty alpha stickers.
fun!
new product inspires me so.
i go through stages...
sometimes it's photos...
sometimes a quote.
but lately, the new goodies are making me feel like creating.

fursday

i love that even with all the new words j has obtained, and how much progress his little language world has made, he still says "fursday" amongst other f-words that aren't really meant to be f-words.

i went shopping again last night. yeppers.
i'm addicted to stamps i think.
eek!
i will take a photo later of my latest so everyone (including me) can drool.
then i'm gonna play.

reading The Big Picture by Stacy Julian.
it's not often i actually *read* idea books.
for me they're mostly a good source for eye candy and visual inspiration.
this one i'm reading...cuz that's the good part about it.
i totally agree with her philosophy...
enjoying the creative process.
using scrapping as a medium for enjoying your life.
she says:
"i think scrapbooking is a way to LIVE WITH PASSION.
it's about being present in your life. it's about recognizing
a fleeting moment as MEMORABLE before it passes
and it's about the ability you have to say, 'I WAS HERE,
i lived and breathed and played in the sand. i learned
and i loved. i laughed and i cried and i danced to disco
in my kitchen.' "

i don't need anyone to tell me that it's ok to not scrap chronologically...
or to remember the little moments...
what to use or how to think...
but the introspection that can come from listening to and absorbing others' opinions, habits, and perspectives is pretty damn cool.

22 March 2006

hump day - yay!

the week is almost half over. yeah buddy.

so on saturday when i was @ TOM cropping (ahem...shopping) the night away, i left my three new AWESOME compendium books. tia and elsie had been looking at them, and i just simply forgot them there. i was soooo sad when i realized on the way home. i quickly called the store, to find that elizabeth (the owner, sweet sweet chick who has a twin...an embarassing story to go along with that for another time!) had found someone from burnaby (a suburb of vancouver) to take them home with her and pass them on to me. so much kindness and generosity and plain old good will happening in this whole scrappy world. i love it.

so yesterday, dren went out of his way and pick them up from me after work. it got me thinking about him...and how everyday he does something so simple that i appreciate. simple things that make me happy and make my life easier. so i made this...

the shakespeare quote is out of the book "be" from compendium.

this company's motto is "live inspired". the site, the books...just amazing. totally inspiring. i think i first learned about them on ali's blog, and, coincidentally, was reading stacy julian's "big picture" book on the way to work and she also mentions them. you can just window shop and come up with ideas! lots of good-looking stuff to sift through and dream away... i think these beautiful books are my new addiction (uh oh). amazing stuff. seriously. check it out. you will love it too.

20 March 2006

oh happy day

things making me happy today...

it's sunny!!!!!!! (AND the first day of spring - woo hoo!)

memories of yesterday:

holding the book and seeing it in person for the very first time:

(thanks for the photo renee!)

meeting elsie who is in fact uber cool down to earth funny fun chick:

shopping:

(yep, i spoiled mysel)

including these:

and some labels not on their site, but from the same company, cavallini (GORGEOUS stuff!!!)

listening to this old gem:

and drinking:

and thinking about (well what else!!??)...
SCRAPPING!

LOVE!

19 March 2006

ok so maybe there was a teeny bit of paint involved...

took an elsie class yesterday at the AWESOME treasury of memories.
my first ever class. never really had the desire before.
i went with renee...who is just fun to do anything with (i guess...we just shop and talk and scrapbook!)
and hung with lots of cool crazy fun girls.
the class was called "button love"
theoretically it included 2 pages and a card.
i...uhm...sort of finished one page.

and i got to touch and feel the one and only copy of the FREESTYLE book that tracy brought for us to touch and feel...
woooo hoooo!!!!
it's really really really happening!
[i have a photo of me holding the book to insert here...
blogger has decided to go on photo-loading strike]
promise to share more asap!

16 March 2006

so WEIRD!!!!

why does it always always seem to happen like this?
life can go on in its stable, quiet kinda way...
nothing super exciting happening, but nothing horrible happening either.

then...
GOOD, BAD, GOOD, BAD, BAD, BAD, THEN SUPER FREAKING AWESOME...

it's confusing me and hurting my poor brain!!!!

but hey, at least i can share the super freaking awesome news...

i got one of those honourable mention calls today....

pretty cool, huh?

14 March 2006

alone

do you ever have days where you feel alone?
not lonely, but alone.
alone in your situation...

had therapy with the dad today.
what an eye-opener.

i believe in the bettering of self and all that awareness.
but damn is it hard.
emotionally draining.
i've just got no energy left.

anyways...that's what's going on with me today.
well, of course much more in my head.
but that's about all i can muster to share right now.

a strange mixture of sadness and love in my heart today.
i hope that everyone who reads this has someone they love in their life.
anyone.
anyone they can look at or talk to on the phone and say "i love you."
and that's it.

11 March 2006

we don't talk to strangers,

right buddy?

right. or monsters either.

10 March 2006

aLTeReD sTaTe

dare day yall!

09 March 2006

neglectful blogger

with no time to spare.
but you know what...i've had a lot of time to think.
maybe i need to take my digital voice recorder with me on my new bus journey to work every morning.
MAN...in the silence of WALKING BY MYSELF, my mind races.
ideas, thoughts, philosophy...it all just runs rampant.
my quiet place used to be the bathroom...
thinking is good for my brain...i can feel it.

tomorrow is new dare day.
FUN!
supa dupa inspirational cool e.falconbridge is the miss march chica
SUCH good stuff this girl churns out. love it.

adjusting to dren working nights.
he comes to bed around 5:30am and i get up.
i come home and he's gone. crappy huh?
but i get time to myself...i get to miss him...
i think for the short term it might actually be a good thing.
love the man like no one else.

hope you all have a wonderful sleep, sweet sweet dreams...

05 March 2006

he's hot AND employed...

yeah baby!
dren starts driving tomorrow night at his new job!
one kinda crappy thing is that he will be working nights to start.
6pm-6am
uhm ya. you read that right.
life is gonna get weird.
but i am looking at it in the most positive light i can.
i mean...the financial stress lately has been about killing me.
no more of that...SUCH a good thing.
hopefully in 3 months he'll get to switch to days,
AND get paid double what he's making to start.
that, my friends, is something to look forward to.

going to an oscar party at aley's tonight
our other sister, rhi, won 3 pedicures at a silent auction...
pedicures that come to US...soooo...
foot love at the oscar party!
and mum's getting a manicure
and other friends will get other stuff...too cool!

mum is pretty settled in the basement suite of the quebec st. house
she got in from saturna last week.
i helped her unload the car and get some stuff unpacked.
she is doing SO well.
at some point we will go back to saturna and pick up the last of her stuff.
once the tenant upstairs moves out and she can have her place back.
she is "reclaiming" the house...strong woman.
appointment march 14 w/my parent's therapist for me & him.
should be interesting.

1:45??? better go have a shower and get ready for party!

03 March 2006

fish lips and being too busy

first, the lips (cuz, why not?)

we be silly. i like that.

this week has continued to be insane work-wise.
this is a brief glimpse into a day in the life of me lately:
6:00 alarm goes off
6:07 alarm goes off again (i do hit the snooze button, yes i do)
6:14 alarm goes off again (this time i seriously consider getting up. decide against it)
6:21 alarm goes off (immediately hit snooze)
6:28 alarm goes off (turn alarm OFF...gasp!)
6:29 turn on little light and squint at the pile of clothes on the floor and into the closet, trying to decide what to wear
6:30 get out of bed, stumble to bathroom
6:31 - oh heck i can't seriously go through my whole day minute by minute...
7:30/7:45 arrive @ work
1:00(ish) pause for a bite and a teeny break
4:00 hmmmm time to go home (don't go home, keep working)
4:01 phones are off, blast music and try to focus on some work
6:00(ish) finally pack up and leave
6:30 arrive home
6:35 cram some food in the mouth, madly play and visit w/ boys
7:00 start getting j ready for bed, or d does
7:30 spend some time on computer, answering emails or working more, scrap if i'm lucky
8:00 yawn so much i decide to just veg on the couch instead
(i have no real clue what happens in this time slot...twilight zone)
10:30(ish) decide i'm probably too tired to do anything i should just go to bed

exciting life, huh!!??

27 February 2006

going going...

gone.

sick.
ick.

shoulda known burn-out was imminent.
trying to get all nice and caught up at work...
the going home to crawl into bed.

boo hiss.

ciao for now lovelies.

26 February 2006

scattered

you ever have days/stages when you just feel scattered? just all over the place. i have about 5 million things to do and ideas bouncing around in my head, and yet if i even start one of those things on my list it gets left unfinished because i get distracted and run off to do something else...

i currently have a one-tenth sorted iPhoto gallery (one of my projects this weekend is to back up my pix on DVD...5000 is too many if anything were to happen), played with some images in Photoshop for printing, started some research, left a scrap page half-finished, a CJ entry half-finished, cleaning/organizing of the scrap stash half done, half-cleaned the bathroom (how is that even possible...why would you want to prolong this task gen!??), a pile of work on my desk to go in to tomorrow morning...it just goes on. My poor brain is crammed all full of partially-finished things! Time to regroup...

i figured that maybe if i sat down at the computer to write about it maybe it would help me gather my thoughts and started getting things done. HA! i'll probably get sucked into the damn machine now and not move all day. but then, if i did that, i would burn the pasta sauce that is bubbling away on the stove! so i guess i better cut the post short (leave yet another thing unfinished) and go stir that sauce.

but...but...i also have so many fun photos from this weekend that i want to share....

help!!!!!

23 February 2006

my first dare and more

the latest in Dare Land is up and available for perusal...
what do you think?

here is mine...

in other news: deadlines deadline deadlines.
i'm curious -
why are people who want to make cds & dvds always so far behind the 8ball?
it makes their life difficult.
it makes our lives difficult.
it makes the lives of the people @ the plant difficult.
it makes NO sense!
our motto:
do NOT book your CD release party/show/conference/whatever before you have your discs in hand!!!!
do people listen to our oh-so-wise motto?
not generally, no they don't
just one of the bits and pieces making my life exhausting this week.

but this little gem just this minute came out of j's mouth:
(is awake at 11:30pm because he's getting sicko so is lying on the couch watching the discovery channel w/ d woo hoo good cozy couch times)
"sometimes i watched that before.
when i was sixteen years old!"
-jaxon @ 4 years old.
(d and i LOST it, of course)

also in the good news section:
i had so much fun tonight w/ renee.
this girl has a heart of gold.
so generous and beautiful and kind.
so glad to have her as a friend.

alright. time for a few cheetos (yep - 24 hr shopper's drug mart came in handy renee! lol) and a good night's sleep.

21 February 2006

the boy can ride!!

i emerged from the pits today early enough to get to take j out for a little ride.
just me and him. so nice.
and his training wheels are officially OFF.
super exciting!
he is just so good...lil thing.
got this from the weekend...
just 3 days ago...
when he was still learning if you can believe that.
i's a proud & happy mama today.

20 February 2006

disappearing into the pits of hell

also known as: work without a receptionist/$ person for a whole week...
i'm gonna work my butt off today and hopefully get all miraculously caught up so that i don't have to disappear for the whole entire week never to be seen or heard from again for the whole week... :P
i am desperate to blog and pea but just freakin CAN'T right now...
hope to later...just know i DO love you i DO!!!!
back to the pits....wish me luck.

17 February 2006

eeeeeek!

the rest of the world awakes much earlier than west coast me...tee hee!
have a peek-see... here

this is exciting for me.
i have believed in what all of these talented and thought-provoking ladies put together...from day one.
all of them.
i LOVE the idea of getting inspiration from all around...from real life.
this is very exciting for me.

thank you thank you thank you.
i feel blessed today by life.

16 February 2006

wanna see...

...what i got for v-day?
dren took some inspiration from the g(s) layout i was in the process of making...
cut up some of his own chester paper and came up with this:

and wrote something soooooper sweet inside too (of course).
and wanna hear something funny?
i had spent a bunch of time the night before cutting out bits and pieces for my layout.
i walked in the door tuesday after work and just about flipped my lid...
i thought he used MY bits and pieces!
goes to show how presumptious i can be.
i thankfully kept my mouth shut long enough to actually walk over to the table and take a closer look.
doh!
what a wonderful wife i am...ick.
but i'm workin on it...i am.

oh, and here's the g(s) page (vegas3:g2&g1):

happy thursday loves!
2 more work days then the weeeeekend!

14 February 2006

self-talk#3

they say people in your life are seasons
and anything that happens is for a reason

-kanye west, hear 'em say (feat. adam levine)

happy valentine's day everyone.

12 February 2006

check it!!!

apears to be up for preorder now in cyberworld...
this is just SO exciting my friends!!!
and i'm so so so so happy to be able to share.

11 February 2006

to scrap?

or not to scrap?
that is the question.

hmmmm...it's 11:24.
i just went thru my BOS of PEAS.
WOW there is some A M A Z I N G stuff in there.
i'm feeling inspired.
but yeah...it's kinda late.
hmmm
am i tired?
or am i inspired?

hmmmm.............................

my house is a pit

today will be cleaning and grocery shopping day.
seriously...it's gotten to the point where i just can't ignore it anymore.

i was at this point where i would consider cleaning and organizing my scrap area because it's becoming just so disorganized and messy, but every day the urge to create would overcome that urge to clean. i do LOVE scrappin in a clean space. so inspiring. so today, since i feel like my house is literally caving in on me (i look to the left of my computer and i see flip-flops, a pile of misc papers that fell, a lint brush, a couple of toys, a toy part, an empty plastic food container, a pillow, a towel, hamburger buns in a bag (WTF????)...and to the right...a towel (used to cover my scanner, but still), a couple more incomplete toys, a basket of toys on MY table (hmmm...mama on the warpath comin up), a shirt that got water spilled on it so it promptly had to come off, three plants that need to be watered, photo paper that has to be put away, my vitamin container that needs to be filled up, glasses cleaner rag thingy, and a couple of nail polish bottles (jaxon is obsessed w/ nail polish these days).

nuff said. time to clean.

10 February 2006

boss lady

guess what I heard last night when Dren was brushing J's teeth?

D: "Do you know who the REAL boss around here is?"
J: "What?"
D: "The real boss. Do you know who the real boss is?"
J: "No."
D: "Mummy. She's the boss around here."

YEAH BABY!!!!!
just one of the guzzillion reason i love this man.

09 February 2006

yeah baby!

it stayed with me...
all the way till 11pm when i finally got to sit down.

quite possibly the worst of all my vegas pix.
tee hee...

08 February 2006

OH! and i almost forgot!

Dren paaaaaaaaassed!!!!
Yippee!!!
Now to find him a job.
But for the time being, that stress is o-vah.

so much better +

thank you.
thank you for your kind comments, emails, thoughtful wishes.

as i wrote elsewhere earlier...things always look brighter by the light of day.
and what a LIGHT-filled and gorgeous day. crisp and breezy. blue sky. sunshine.
i'm so lucky in this life.
today i remember something my mama said last night.
it was in reference to my dad's mid-life crisis or whatever the hell is going on with him.

doesn't he know how lucky we are?
he has to know how wealthy we are.
we have two beautiful houses.
we have a family...children...grandchildren.
we have money in the bank.
we have friends.
we are so lucky.

it's a much more optomistic mood today my friends.
i'm tempted to NOT check my email today when i get home.
go straight into play mode.
so feeling the need to create.
there is SO much inspiration out there.
oh yeah. plus, i have 3 circle journals sitting at home.
and 3 more on their way to me.
i think between kathy and i we are holding up about 29 people.
suffice to say, the procrastination resolution is not going so well.
but hey...sometimes things get in the way.
you deal with them, you move on.

i realize i have done NOTHING with vegas pix yet.
haven't shared.
haven't scrapped em.
must do so. and feeling like doing so.
YES!

love yall...

07 February 2006

i'm sorry to report

disclaimer: i might ramble...sorry.

it's been another tough evening.
the day was OK.
i got an email tonight from my dad.
i'm not sure i would normally share this, but to be honest my emotions are so raw right now that i feel like writing and crying might be therapeutic. somehow writing to share is easier and comes more easily...sharing with people who care...
some of you might know that i have two sisters. they're actually my half sisters, but we're so close that i don't introduce them as, "this is my half-sister aley/rhi"...i just call them my sisters. they don't biologically belong to my father, but he's treated them as his. they also have a relationship with their dad, so it's not like my dad took the place of theirs. they call him by his name, tony. a year ago something happened that totally rocked our family and put my parent's relationship on the rocks officially after 30 years of marriage. for a year they have struggled...tried, sought therapy, fought, communicated, made an effort. let's not pretend they had a perfect marriage up until that point - not true by any means. this was only the symptom of the real problems lying deep below the surface of what they called marriage. this little bit of background might help you understand the email below a little more.

email from dad:
Subject: Update
Not a happy one, I'm afraid. There's no easy way to say it. I've decided to live alone, at least for the present. Annie has graciously agreed to stay in Vancouver until we make a final decision. I'm afraid that at least to begin with you are all likely to see this as selfish on my part, and grossly unfair to your mother. I want you to know that's pretty much the way I see it too, although Annie doesn't agree with 'unfair', that's because she's so scrupulously honourable and fair herself, among her other fine and lovely attributes.

You might wonder, since she's so terrific, why I don't want to live with her. Sometimes I have to wonder myself. But I'm afraid that at the moment I can see no other way to a completely honest future, together or apart, than by being separate now.

If you want to write to me, or call, I'll be genuinely happy to talk to you or write back. If you don't want to do any of that for now, I completely understand. I love you all.

t/d
/end email from dad

so i read it. i don't think i've even read it all yet. i saw it, i realized my mum was in town almost at the minute i read it, and called her. my sister aley was over. we had gone for a brisk walk (yay - exercise!) before having dinner all together. mum was bringing stuff in from the car to her house (she takes a ferry from saturna island...their "retirement" place). we hung up. i got sad. really truly sad. i'm just so sad. she called back when she was done unloading and talked to aley. aley got sad. it was an evening of hugs and tears in my house. i said to her..."i really want to be with mum...i want to take her flowers and for her to not be alone...i want to give her a hug". so we did. we went to safeway. we got her three bright bright primulas - all different gorgeous colours. then we wanted to make sure she had snacks and food. we got her a croissant for the morning. crackers, cheese, butternut squash soup, carrots, apples, grapes, milk...

so we took the goods to her and she smiled so large. we both gave her huge hugs and i promptly burst into tears. but it was good to just know she was ok. to be able to get that hug...for myself...not just to be able to give her one. i realized as much as i wanted to do for her...she was doing for me. we have a strong bond, her and i. i'm glad we three got to sit and talk.

i am so confused. i am so upset. i am so mad. at every turn of events my brain patterns shift. i'm reminded all of a sudden that this is happening. it has been a year of emotional turmoil. i feel such extreme sadness for my mama. i feel like i might be mourning my relationship with my father. i have realized how little of a relationship i have with my father.

sharing feels ok. writing is therapeutic. so is the l a r g e glass of wine that dren just placed in front of me. if nothing else i am learning some lessons that my parents could have stood to learn 30 years ago. i appreciate my husband so much right now.

thank you so much for listening if you have made it to this point.

06 February 2006

monday...

i thought holidays were supposed to leave you feeling refreshed and ready for work again?

04 February 2006

last night

so while i'm mostly obsessed with my recent trip to vegas and all things vegas and my pictures and oh yeah getting settled back into home life and figuring out how to tell the whole vegas story in pictures when my iPhoto will NOT cooperate...i just wanted to share with you what i did last night.

my sister and i finally made and kept a date. it was really nice to spend time with her and catch up and have some fun. aley and i do this weird connect/disconnect thing every once in a while and it feels good to be connected again. she scored some free tickets to an art opening last night at the vancouver art gallery. the artist's name is brian jungen and he is amazing. a local vancouver aboriginal artist who has become famous for making traditional native masks from nike athletic shoes.

how cool is that!!??

you can read more about him and the show here...
http://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/exhibitions_brianjungen.cfm

24 January 2006

depressed?

I think not. Supposedly today is the most depressing day of the year. Here in Vancouver it is gorgeous. Sunny and crisp.

The beautiful weather compelled me to go for a small stroll today. I left work and ventured outside. the breeze and fresh air were amazing. It reminded me of a couple things. One, I do not go for enough walks. Yes, it's been wintery and rainy and disgusting out. But still. I would survive a walk or ten, and probably be way better off for it. I have not found out a way to fit exercise into my life, and it's not good. Two, it reminded me so much of the wonderful clean air and peaceful walks on Saturna. That place is like a sanctuary for me. I feel like a different human when I'm there. Calm. No stress. I sleep like a rock.

Thinking about Saturna makes me think of my mama. Her heart is so hurting right now. My parents have been on a difficult spin for just over a year now. It was shortly after the shit hit the fan with them that I found scrapbooking. Can I just say how insanely lucky that is?? My life has gotten so much better over the last year. I am a better person, a nicer human, a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend. Of course I've got a million issues still...but I'm in a way better frame of mind to deal with them.

While my life has changed for the better due to the therapy of scrapbooking (I am NOT kidding), my parents have been on a long and painful road to...? Who knows what is going to happen. They are both reluctant to let go of 30+ years of marriage without a lot of time, effort, and thought. They know that if they split up they will not get back together.

While I am certainly holding my own pain in my heart (man, I actually FEEL it), I really just want to be there for my mum. She is just so sad. And that makes me so sad. I want to be where she is. I want to hug her and take her pain away. I know that's not possible. I know she has to go through this. And is she ever the epitome of strength. Holy cow. I tell her I'm here, I listen when she speaks, and I try to bring some sunshine into her life. I'm glad she's getting stronger. I look forward to the day when they are released...one way or another.

And though I now realize I have no relationship with my father, who I thought I was so close to, I know that will come later. Or not. More than ever, I am focused on the existing relationships. Dren. Jaxon. My mum, sisters, friends. People who I love and who love me back.

We had Vietnamese for lunch today. I got a fortune cookie and opened it at the end of the meal. It said "Look deeply within to root out negative attitudes". Yessir.

That's it that's all. Happy (sunshiny!!!) Tuesday.

our family according to jaxon

this made my heart smile the moment i saw it in j's cubby on thursday.
this made my whole day.
this made my life feel so good.

and then, i found out. i have no brain.

of course, there is a funny story to go along with it too.

you see the ball thingies above two of the heads?
i asked jaxon in the car on the way home..."what is this above daddy's head?"
jaxon: "that's daddy's brain"
me: "oh! wow!"
dren: "what do you think it means that you have no brain?"

sooo...apparently daddy has half a brain, jaxon has a whole brain, and mama has no brain. :(

Amazing stuff.

Tomorrow's Friday - yipee!

good day

Today was a good day.

I was off work at a reasonable time; yet felt I accomplished a lot.
Came home with Jaxon, who was in a horrible mood.
About 15 seconds after we walked in the door, a neighbour came by with her 3 year old and asked if Jaxon could come play at their house. Um...hell ya!
Dren and I were alone. In our house. At the same time. Wow.
Then he made dinner and I went to fetch Jaxon.
Then it was bathtime. I had some good moments with him today and some not-so-great moments. One minute he loves me, the next he's being a total evil 4 year old.
"Ya!? SO!?" ... "I hate stuff"...<---- now THAT was hilarious ... "well I'm not going to play with you"
Anyway, got him off to bed.
Hopped over to the previously-known-as Dining Room Table to create.
I need to complete my hof entry. Yep. Goin for it.
I have a couple photo swaps in the works and a couple gifts to make.
All the while watching a movie w/ D.
I'm a multi-tasker while scrapping or cleaning. Half-listen half-watch.
And yes, that's why when you ask me to remember some specific part of a movie, I may not be able to, unless it's a favourite and I've watched it twenty times.
Good day. Long...worked hard...but good. I think that's what makes me appreciate its goodness.

Can't share hof stuff, but I can share the page I did tonight for my dear friend Sandrine. What a talented lil scrap this girl is. Her beatiful boys Hugo and Logan...sur la plage.

self talk #1

Lately I've often felt that my brain is going a million miles a minute. Thinking about things...coming up with things to say...to myself. Ideas, inspiratioin, words of wisdom...they're everywhere! This is a new experience...I'm so not good at the whole "self-talk" thing. I'm thinking this means I'm actually becoming a bit more aware...of myself, my actions, my thoughts, and the world around me. I believe this is a good thing for one like me - wanting a little change in life. Might as well start with me right?

it's raining it's pouring...

i wish i was snoring!!!
i have come to the realization that i loooove to sleep in winter.

do you know that it has rained every single day since the 19th of december?
i heard that on the radio yesterday...and yep...still raining.
granted...it hasn't rained all day every day since then...but at least a bit...every day.

truth be told...i don't hate the rain.
i don't have to work outside.
i am lucky enough to have a car so i don't get too wet and/or miserable.
i don't hate the rain...as long as i don't have to deal with it too much.
but still...since the 19th of december?

on friday night i had a bad headache when i went to bed (around 12:30)
i woke up early-ish (6:30) and still had the headache.
went back to sleep.
woke up at....11:45!!!!
there is no WAY i could sleep that long in summer.
winter...ahhh...cozy cozy bed w/ our new duvet cover.
mmmm...too bad i'm at work :(

today, i vow to work. hard.
get lots of stuff done.
i want to feel good about my day and my job.
i want to leave my work here when i go home, feeling like i accomplished a lot.
i want to go home after work today and enjoy my family and make some art.

yeeeee haw!

hope everyone has a very happy monday.

05 January 2006

you almost got

a photo shoot of jaxon as a cat.

I asked him if I could take a picture of him as a ghost (because, afterall, that's what he normally is after his bath when the towel drapes atop his head and hangs down around him) but he said no, and crouched down. All bent over. I hear his muffled voice, coming from within the green lump on the floor..."take a picture of a cat. I'm a cat - way down here"

and man...

We just had the BEST bedtime. We read "Dinosaur 123 ABC". It's an old-ish book, resurrected from the shelf tonight. I saw it and immediately thought "hmm...he might actually really enjoy this now". He is full-on (okay, half-way-on) recognizing numbers and letters now. He can recognize numbers up to 39 (his teacher showed me this before Christmas - my jaw almost hit the floor) and the writing is...well...beginning. He still has to ask about lots of the letters, but that's OK. He's so interested - and that makes me smile out loud. I just love his spong-ey-ness right now - it's totally amazing and fun. SO...back to the book. He read it. ALL of it to me. Not entirely exactly word for word...but he recognized each number and then told a story about the dinosaur beside the number. He loooves dinosaurs and knows all these bizarre names that I've never heard before, let alone used in a sentence. A M A Z I N G. Bedtime was so fun tonight.

He's not sleeping yet. But bedtime was fun :)

Off to create. G'night all my lil scraps...

2006...part 2

So I did it...really really really trying to NOT procrastinate, although it just oh-so-goes against my nature...sigh...

I wanted to do this page, and guess what...today I actually accomplished that. I bit the bullet, I plunged ahead, I did the scary thing and put the want-tos, the need-tos and the absolutes down on paper, and here it is.

The strips in the library pocket read...
• exercise - get out for walks...(you know it makes you feel good!)
• apologize - be softer - be fair
• kiss & hug my boys multiple times every day and tell them i love them always
• eat healthier foods...cook more
• do something creative every day
• send more cards, write more notes & letters
• live in the moment

Kathy @ Leaving Memories is totally to blame for the inspiration - the "challenge" and the goodies that created this page. I love my DT gig there and it's really pushed me to get creative.

02 January 2006

2006

...yep, it is.
I have been WAY too on-the-go the last few days and it's time to settle down and enjoy the last two days of holidays I have...just relaxing and reflecting...scrapping and planning.

Today was a huge waste of a day since I was feeling "icky" and couldn't muster up the energy to do anything at all except for a walk around the block. Now that I'm feeling a teeny bit better and coming out of the funk, I can think about the year to come.

simplify...organize...go for it...love...enjoy life...be happy

I was tying my hair up for the millionth time today because the elastic was pulling on it and hurting my scalp. Once the ball of hair on top of my head becomes loose, it starts to pull. I looked at the elastic - all stretched out with that one part that just holds it together...like the elastic is mostly gone. It's just like the other 3 elastics I MIGHT be able to find if I really really looked for them hard.
1) when the elastic breaks, throw it away
2) when you don't have many left, buy more
Following those two simple "rules" if you will, would result in me NOT having a million moments where I get irritated because my head hurts and the elastic is all ugly and broken. NOT having those moments would mean me=happy.

Kinda like...on the floor today I found airplane headphones. I didn't know where I should put them that I might actually find them should we happen to fly on the same airline again (having been on a plane like 2 times in the last 5 years). I couldn't think of the right place, so I threw them into the semi-hidden corner of my bedroom. Is this the home for the headphones? NO. I thought about throwing them away, but then I thought...wasteful. I don't like to be wasteful. Is that why I keep half the crap I keep? Probably. What does keeping the crap do for me? Not much, except irritate me when it's cluttering up my space and then when I can't find a home for it. Here is a HUGE goal for me for this year, which I honestly believe will make me happier...

CLEAR THE CLUTTER

IT WILL MEAN I CAN CLEAR THE MENTAL CLUTTER.

For me...all the STUFF that I honest truly don't need is stressing me out!! Really...it's affecting my brain...the way I think, whether I can get motivated.

What is still good and useable will be going to Big Brothers, a local organization that collects used goods (clothing, household stuff...pretty much anything sell-able) and uses the money to fund their organization. They phone and tell you when they'll be in your area and come to pick everything up. No more "oh, I'll have a garage sale" or "someone might want this" or "i think i will definitely use this soon". No more of that!

K...enough ranting for now. I'm looking forward to doing my reflective/soul-searching/goals page (thanks Kathy!).

24 December 2005

family

it is all about family these days. friends and family. the ones we love.
surround yourself with them, appreciate them, love them back.

i realized today that christmas may have become a bit tainted in our family...and this makes me so so sad. last year things were rough...even though we didn't know why at the time. i would love to be able to turn back the clock sometimes, where things were easier. but i'm going to do my best to remember that things happen for a reason...that trials and tribulations contribute to our lives and our souls and serve to make us better people and/or teach us lessons. i will surround myself with as much love and support as i can. i will take time to do things i enjoy. i will make sure that my son has a great christmas and that he knows he is loved by mum and dad...always no matter what.

21 December 2005

here's some of my faves. love y'all.

20 December 2005

holy crap

Is it seriously the 20th of December?
Man oh man how time flies. I SWEAR yesterday there were 10 days left.
I have nothing to say. This might be why I have not updated my blog in a few.
All I want is to be on holidays with TV movies on, my xmas tree a-blaze (with light, not fire), eggnog in my cup and a clean scrap space to create my little heart out.
What am I doing instead? Sitting here at work looking out at the grey rainy day and thinking about lists and such. But hey. At least work is not too busy and I'm able to sit and daydream and chat :)
We're going to see Narnia tonight. So looking forward to date night with my babe.
Mum's babysitting. Mum's are the best.
Smoocharoonies you loony toonies!

15 December 2005

baby got a boo boo!

look:

Poor lil dude! I watched the whole thing too...man that sucked. Off the couch, smack the eye on the table, scream and bleed. Wonderful. He has never drawn blood from the head before! He's gettin a shiner!

After a few days of finishing up some deadline stuff, I got to play with my xmas journal again. Today, it was December 3 for me all over again. Tee hee!

12 December 2005

busy!

Had a great, busy, productive AND relaxing weekend! I'm sure tomorrow when I'm sitting at work I will feel like it went by too fast, but hey...I'm reveling in it right now. And speaking of right now, it's late. 12:40am and I MUST get to bed if I don't want to be totally grumpy at work all day tomorrow.

Did another page of my xmas journal. I fully admit that I'm stretching the truth by putting the date of December 2, 2005 on this page, since I created it today...but I really want to have the date and order of this thing by when we receive the assignments. Of course my ultimate hope is that one of these days VERY soon I will be caught up, but, well...knowing me...who knows. And I ain't losing any sleep over it either.

Then, I did this cute lil project for the LM DT (featuring "Designing with Gen" this month - yay!). I used supplies from the December kit and an AC ribbon spool (empty of course!).

Some other stuff too (I know!!!) but I gotta sleep. Now.
G'night!

OH. PS. While I don't have a cool banner and while I lost all my links already in my last template change ('doh!) I figure I'll play around a bit and have some fun with template changes. Because I figure - it's grey, it's December, and I'm all about colour right now. Change. Love it in the winter. Need to get my hair cut and dyed...I ALWAYS do this in December. I have to get my links back though. OK. Long PS. Goodnight!

08 December 2005

merry merry...

It's that time!!!!!
I'm all better, and now that I'm....eight days behind, it's time to start my journal!

Here's day one...
and a big fat hug and hello to all y'all!

05 December 2005

sick (and tired)

I swear you can catch things through blogs, email, and IMs.
And whoever sent me some nasty bug though any of these channels...
I'M NOT IMPRESSED!
I feel like crap.
I need sleep.
I also have a ton to do.
I have a meeting tonight.
Must attend.
So please, only healthy people are allowed to talk to me in any form!!!
I'm taking Cold-Fx which is supposed to be some miracle cure-all.
I think I started too late.
But perhaps I can nip the next bug in the bud (omg that sounds so dumb).
OK
Sorry no fabulous-ness to share.
Wish I could afford to buy you all a bag for merry merry.
But I do love you.
Bye for now!

01 December 2005

tomorrow is friday...sigh...

And that's a happy sigh, by the way.
I'm so looking forward to and am in need of, a weekend.
Down side: I think I'm getting sick.

I signed up for this Journal your Christmas class:
http://www.shimelle.com/new/classes/christmasjournal/index.html
I know there is a way to make the "Journal your Christmas text all cool and linked up, but I simply do not know it.
Nor do I know how to have a cool-ass banner.
Now, I'm sure that I could learn, but I am also lazy.
Lazy or busy. Busy or lazy. Who knows.

Back to the online class.
I have never done anything like this - class online or physically.
Should be fun and exciting. Signed my rainbow girl Ashley up too :)
I am REALLY looking forward to thinking about and experiencing things in December...
No pre-Christmas fog and daze and speeding-through-everything for me this year.
Nosir.

Oh! My new purse.
Love it.

Isn't it cute!!?? Merry Christmas to meee...

Um what else? I have a TON to do.
My Treo device is not organizing my life like I thought it would.
I think maybe that's because I have to tell it things before it can help. Damn shame. Tee hee!

Need to clean, organize, put up lights and get decs outta storage. Yay! Dren's home.

Happy almost-Friday loves!

29 November 2005

He's hoooooome!!!!!!!!!

Yipee!!!
Yaaay!!!
Wooooo-hooooooo!

My baby is home. Home safe and sound.

Here's how it went down:

I was sitting at my friend's house, who also happens to be a neighbour.
We've been spending a lot of time there - Jaxon and her son Carmichael play, and me and Colleen play :)
Ding-dong! The doorbell sounds.
We all (there was another neighbour/friend there too) shut up and get bug-eyed because we happened to be talking about some hush-hush co-op stuff and thought we might have been busted (could they hear us through the door???).
Colleen aka Coco J opens the door and not a word.
She enters the living room, eyebrows raised.
Walking behind her....
MY HUSBAND!!!!!
HOLDING A HUGE BOUQUET OF FLOWERS :)
He had put his finger up to his lips when she opened the door, letting her know not to let on.
What an awesome man. What a great surprise.

Yep, I cried.
Tears of joy.

smiling

He has been SOOO good the past two days. Maybe he sensed something. I don't know, but really, he has been an absolute angel and that has helped me to no end. Even helped me grocery shop and was patient the whole time.

Thank you thank you thank you...
To all you wonderful people who cheer me up when I am down. Kind words, virtual hugs, real hugs, good old fashioned friendship love and support. Means the world and it actually works :)

Having a good day. Such a good day.

Found a bunch of supply stuff that I thought I lost after discovering one by one that I couldn't find:
1. The thing I had been working on (oh well, I'll move on to something else...it's bound to turn up).
2. My ink pads (umm...ok that's weird but whatever...I'll use these other ones).
3. My scissors (OK. WTF is going on here. Am I going crazy???).
No. You're not. You used all of this stuff the other night and put it away (!!??? I know right!!???) in a box. Double whatever. It's found - hallelujah! (sp?).

Maroon 5
This music makes me happy.
It's sexy, warm, chair-dancing-at-work-while-you-sing type music.

Garden State Soundtrack
So good. It even gets better the more you listen to it.

It's snowing!!! Love love love it! Specially when my little love says to me..."I'm so exciting that it's snowing mama! Are you exciting too?". Well, I like to think so darling. I'll ignore the fact that it's turning into a wet sloppy mess as I type...

Don't grocery shop when you're hungry.
Bought chocolate chips popsicles for J nice bread 3 kinds of cheese some pre-marinated souvlaki things that looked sooooo good and they better BE good...tater tots popcorn dip for the chips (gasp!) nuts liverwurst etc etc etc. LOTS of food. We are well stocked. I better stay active with all the eating I'll be doing. It's not like I'm even feeding a grown man afterall...Jaxon better be going through a growth spurt right quick!

The best thing to come out of actually having groceries:
THE best salads ever.
They are a MEAL.
bottom of bowl = balsamic vinaigrette or dressing of your choice
cut up into small pieces and throw in:
cucumber tomato celery mushrooms green beans peas peppers carrots zucchini or any combination of any of the vegies you love
add:
chick peas (they are protein and they're good for you)
feta cheese (YUM)
toss.
serve on a bed of lettuce and you've got yourself a filling, healthy meal!
i don't mix the lettuce in cuz if i have leftovers it gets soggy (EW)
i make lots and i eat the leftover vegie/feta part the next day for lunch.

I'm leaving work momentarily for my break and I'm picking up my new bag that I special ordered a month ago.
SO excited. Plus the envelopes I also ordered a month ago. 500 5.5" square envies for $45. Not too shabby.

It's a good day. Thanks for riding this roller coaster with me.

Do any of you need some envelopes?

27 November 2005

tough day

My heart is hurting right now. When I start to feel like this, it feels foreign. I've been trying so hard to be so strong and hold it all in. Why? I have no clue. I'm generally an emotional person - not afraid to cry or feel blue if comes. But these days have not been all that tear-filled. I'm just doing it. Life. One day at a time. Lots of fun times, hectic times, stressful times, laughter, shared moments, good food, hugs, i-love-yous, phone calls, weekends away, long nights, long days.

I almost think something else has to happen to bring out what I'm feeling inside. The first time it was one of Jaxon's preschool teachers going on about how she and her husband used to spend time apart when he travelled for his job and then later only seeing him 3 days a week and how hard it was and how she cried all the time. I thought to myself "am I strange? why haven't i been crying my eyes out at even the thought of my husband being away?" I left, got into my car and proceeded to pretty much bawl all the way to work.

Tonight I was on the phone with my mum and it was a depressing conversation. We don't have those. I was just so "down". I had zero energy for talking and it showed. Instead of pretend everything was fine, I didn't hide that I'm off. I'm so sick of the same conversation every time "that sucks" and "how long" and "when" and "why" and "how hard". I'm sick of it because I want him home now. At least for a little bit. I need him home with me. I'm angry. I'm angry that I don't know when. I'm angry that it's supposed to be over but because of the way the corporate world works, no one knows anything about anything...why they're still there, when they might be coming home, when the next job might be.

I admit it. I have been in denial about the whole thing. I have been so freaking busy that there have been some days that I haven't even thought about how much it sucks. The days come and go and now it's been two months. I have kept the words "temporary" and "soon" and "hopefully" in my internal dialogue on rotation constantly. The "it's over!" moment and getting our hopes up, only to have them stretched out over another week (two...three...???). It's made us mad and stressed out and sad. We really really need a refresher. We need to be a unit for more than 48 hours.

This is really really tough. I thought I might write about it. I think it helped a bit.

26 November 2005

the end of november

is almost here. can you believe it?
we're back on the island visiting dren again.
hmph. we both really really thought he would be home by the weekend.
nope.
not sure when now. hopefully soon...that's all we know.
and the latest is that he might have to start a new job dec. 5th.
double hmph.
but we're here, we're together, we're family, and we always will be.

i finally cleaned my house last night. big news, i know.

i got a treo. this is very exciting. part of the neverending quest to organize myself.

because i'm photographically-uploadingly-challenged right now, here's a link instead...

http://web.palm.com/products/smartphones/treo650/index.jhtml;jsessionid=Y2APTLE5RCLXSCQFGJDCFFQKAUZEOIV0

my dear friend coco j and i took some hilarious photos with it last night as we goofed off. it was fun. but i still need to learn about it more and remember to bring the charger and plugs and doo-dads with me when i travel so i can share.

peace out...happy holiday weekend to all my 'merican frienz.

23 November 2005

he IS coming home!!!!!!!!!

and i'm laughing my ass off because at first instead of home i typed "homer"...i have NO idea why...but the word (name?) "homer" has crossed my path too many times lately...weirdness.

sooo....
Life rocks.
My house is messy.
I HAVE to do the dishes (at least).
My scrap stuff is a disaster.
Why am I a procrastinator?
My man is coming home :)
Don't know when exactly, but soon.
So so so so happy about that.
Feeling inspired.
Lots of ideas and fun stuff to work with.
FOF for next mo...gotta get crackin.
Busy cutting out unmounted stamps.
Contemplating...clean and organize...
...or shove stuff out of the way and just go at it?
I can taste that feeling of happiness...
...sitting down to a clean space...a blank canvas...
ready for a big fat mess to be made.
hmmmm.

jaxon gets scared sometimes to go down the slide. even though he's been before and loves it everytime...he still gets a little apprehensive. we were at the park last weekend and d climbed right up after him.

18 November 2005

in a state of bliss

in the hotel room that has become our home-away-from-home.
i love d's laptop.
i love that he had a bottle of wolf blass yellow label and a cute little glass waiting for me.
i love that he bought jaxon madagascar.
i love chillin with my man on the weekends.
i love that i brought only a backpack this time and no scrap supplies. i just need one night off...i'm craving it already...but the break is still bliss.
my honey is in the shower and i'm bloggin for a bit.
my other honey is sound asleep with promises of alex the lion in the a.m. dominating his dreams i'm sure.
i love how our little weekly trip has turned into making little friends in the kidzone on the ferry.
i love that my man might be coming home next week.
right now i'm loving life...in a state of bliss.
ya ya...could have something to do with the couple glasses of yummy red.

16 November 2005

boys stink

Truth be told, I'm glad we hired a boy to work in our office, rather than some crazy/menopausal (sp?) woman...apparently 3 women canNOT work in the office together without ending up hating each other (or at least 2 out of three...making it basically like working in a black cloud...and i know cuz i've worked in 3 black clouds before). SO, enter: boy. At first I thought he was a total dolt...he kinda talks like the pot-smoking dolt type. But, he's saving my life!!!! I got online for like 10 minutes at work today...and it can only get better from there, right!!??? He's still in my office...and I know he showers every morning, but my office still stinks. Could be something to do w/ him being a smoker (ew)...but it's more like boy smell. Musty and ew. But whatever. It's not forever. It's temporary. Till he's properly whipped into shape ;)

Other news. Hmmm. I'm exhausted. It's Wednesday (probably not news to most). I will be a happy camper indeed if I can get a good night's sleep. It's amazing what it does for your body. Kind of changes your whole being...in a good way. I'm currently living off caffeine and sugar...with a few vegetables thrown in for good measure.

OK...that's it for now. Peace out homettes.

I GOT IT TO WORK - YIPPEEEEE!!! DT inspiration piece to use cardstock ONLY...

14 November 2005

ON the is-land

12:16 am. Off to bed soon.
I so enjoyed reading blogs tonight for a few before hittin the hay.
Missed this. Been missin a lot I realize.
I got inspired this weekend...not necessarily caught up...but super inspired.

We have been so chill this weekend. D brought bacon and eggs and toast this morning. Let me just say that the thought of cold white spot breaky did nothing for me until i dug in and not only was it NOT cold but it was the most delicious thing every. crispy hash and lotsa grease. Yum. But D better come home soon or I'm gonna get fat.

To backtrack approximately 1 hour: I was woken by the smell of an eggnog latte on the hotel bed sidetable. Love that man.

11 November 2005

off to the is-land today...

To see my sweeetieee!!! Yaaaay!

Jaxon is so happy too...these little excursions are actually quite fun.

I will get....

lots of scrapping time (hopefully)

I've come to LOVE rooting thru my stash and picking out my favourite stuff and trying to cram as much of it as possible into my thng on wheels :)

SO happy it's a holiday and the weekend!!!

PS..WHY can I not upload images???? Waaaah!

Hump Day

Little break from work for a moment. Tomorrow is "Friday" since the real Friday is a holiday - yipee!! Gotta love the short work week. Although the weather is mostly dull, grey and cold, the fall colours all over the place are astounding. I know I see the leaves turn every year, but somehow this year my appreciation for these almost unnatural colours has grown. I'm feeling a bit dull and grey myself in terms of "things to say" right now...plus I have a whole ton of work staring me in the face. I'm hoping to figure out why I'm getting error messages when trying to post a picture. Do you think maybe it hates me because I took such a long blogging holiday? Hmph.

08 November 2005

what's a blog again??

I did try to update this last week...I really did. I lost my internet connection just as I hit "publish post". It was a long entry. Argh. I decided perhaps the universe was trying to tell me something like "give up now". Anyway, after contemplating over the last week or two whether blogging is in fact for me, I have decided to give it another shot. We shall see.

Things are not easy in my life right now by any means. That said, I'm also really truly happy deep down into my core. I feel like a super lucky human being to have the life I have. So except for the days where it's an absolute necessity, I'm done with dwelling. I'll cry when I need to, get it out, and move on.

Gonna keep it short and sweet for now. Back to work.

Here's the latest...I'm so grateful to have this passion in my life.

***OK so blogger is NOT letting me upload my image :( So sad. Maybe later :)

feeling like a single parent and lack of peaing

This is totally weirdness. Jaxon is threatening that "I'm siiiick!". I don't know if this a reaction to daddy being gone (which, by the way, he seems completely fine with so far...it's that 3 year old he-doesn't-really-truly-get-it thing) or if he actually IS getting sick. I hate to say that I hope it's the daddy being gone thing rather than the sick thing, but at this point I do just to get me through the rest of my work week and to the weekend! A co-worker is taking another mini vacation tomorrow and Friday...so here we go again with doing two jobs for two days...and really...it's just not feasible at all for me to do two jobs from home. A half-assed attempt at my one...maybe. Two? No way. So in other words, I really need Jaxon to not be sick...not right now. And then we need to think up a Plan B for when this happens in the future. Sometimes I hate being indispensable at work. Really. Can I please just go work at Starbucks and be able to call in sick when my kid is sick?

Oh yeah. And I miss my husband.

Good news? The house will be cleaner. Really...I realize he's somewhat of a slob. He just doesn't do the whole put it away when you're finished thing. Even garbage...it's too weird. Last week he brought me home his leftover popcorn from the movies (this is our thing...I LOVE it when he does this...such a yummy treat). I finished it and asked him to put the empty bag in the garbage for me. I headed off to bed. The next morning what do I see on the counter? The crumpled bag. Um...hello? You walked into the kitchen and couldn't be bothered to open the cupboard and put the damn bag in the garbage? Maybe if I keep thinking of stuff like this I won't miss him so much...KIDDING!!! Love him to bits and a messy house is worth it. I miss him.

I miss checking the pea pod. A LOT. I don't think I've been over to leave praise since...well...maybe a week and a half. I MUST make time for this. Busy, as usual...but I don't feel good about using that excuse forever. I miss seeing all the inspirational work and all my favourite pea-ers latest. OK. Hopefully later today. Amongst the ten gazillion other things on The List, making dinner, making lunches for tomorrow, bathing my kid, putting laundry away, tidying up, doing dishes...ya...amongst all that...must find time to pea.

Over and out. It's HUMP DAY!!!!

04 October 2005

he's going away

D's job is taking him away from us. Not sure for how long. This is all very new to us...being separated at all. It's happened maybe twice for a week at a time in 6 years. He will still be fairly close...we can go see him maybe on the weekends. What a strange, strange adjustment. Me...I'm so busy that life will just have to carry on. But I'll miss him so much...just those moments of knowing he's there with me. The hugs, the kisses, the nice kind things he's always saying and doing...his love, his support. It will all still be there, but I'm pretty much going to be a single mama...at least during the week. And D. He seems kinda screwed up about it. He has NEVER been separated from Jaxon for more than like 3 nights tops. He's feeling weird. I initially was selfish...thinking of the changes to my own life and Jaxon's life and our daily routine. But he needed to hear something else from me...and I realized that thank god.
me: you don't need to worry about us...nothing is going to happen to us just because you're away.
d: it makes me feel so good to hear you say that.

It's a new challenge, but we'll be fine. I'm sure.

THE BEST MONDAY EVER!!!!!!!!

Mondays? Blech.
My birthday on a Monday? Slight cause for celebration.

Although I only have but a minute, I must update what has been a slightly depressing blog.
Because. I am. In NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM depressed. Not one bit.
Even work is OK today. Because whatever. It's my birthday!!!!

Check this...adding to my 4th day of celebration...and the real day...

  • birthday LOVE

  • I am so feeling the love. You bet your bottom dollar.
Friend rule. They make my world brighter and funner.
    I feel special.
    I've already been in tears.

Over and out for now. Pix for sure later. Oh yeah.

    15 September 2005

    Thursday

Geez man have I ever been neglecting you my poor sweet blogaroo.

I have been a busy lil beaver. Spending much needed time with the J man and being more of a mum and a wife. D got a job. A freakin wicked job where he's gonna make real money doing what he knows how to do. Not what he loves to, but where he's got skills. I think this, combined with the fact that I am absolutely utterly head over heels in love with scrapping, is what is making me ugh my job. That, and also that it's busy time at work. I have to remember what's important tho.

To live in a victim place is to point a finger at someone else, as if you have no control over your own life.

    Random, I know, but relevant.

    09 September 2005

    my purse (aka Suitcase)

It's a big fat mess. I have to clean it. It's practically bursting at the seams. I can't close the zippers. This really deserves a picture so that you can all see what I mean, but I'm at work and I don't have my camera.

I am such a procrastinator when it comes to dealing with miscellaneous papers. Blech. I'm really good at making piles and tucking them temporarily out of site though.

I must visit Ruby Dog Art Store today. Ruby Dog houses the most eclectic collection of found art objects and STUFF. I love it. Imagination gone wild. This store is the Queen Ruler of Altered Art. Love it! I hope to find some fun stuff for myself...and maybe some fun for friends too. Yessir.

    08 September 2005

    what a slacker!!!

In blogland anyway. I miss it, but I've also been actually busy doing actual stuff...you know, accomplishing things. That feels mighty fine. Experimenting with art and getting crazy with photoswaps. Much fun to be had by all.

My darling sister (one of) is asking me what I want for my birthday. Um. World peace? Resolution and safety and fixed lives for those suffering in the Southern US? A healthy child. For D to find a job. To be able to do what I dream about. To have enough time to stay in touch with wonderful friends and precious family. All these things that no one can give me. Today is not a day I'll be able to answer her.

The never-ending strive to not be a procrastinator...or at least not with things that make others feel good....this will be my goal for now. Cross things off the list. Give gifts of mail-love and art-love/scrap-love. Remember the word that was supposed to be the word of the day on my blog (it's been a loooong time since I've updated daily) last week...NURTURE. Nurture what's important in life...it will come back to you tenfold.

Happy Thursday...only one more workday after today and then it's the weekend. The fabulous weekend.

    01 September 2005

she got me (hit me baby, one more time)

    Thanks Amber Poopy Tagger-Face.

    Here goes. 5 RANDOMS.

    1. A couple of weeks ago I broke a personal record for the greatest number of jeans I could put on at one time. My new record: 6 pair. Previous record: 1 pair. Yes. Red wine was involved.

    2. My belly button is pierced and has a big fancy jewel in it. Hardly anyone gets to see it anymore. My tummy used to be really flat.

    3. I want to take pole dancing lessons. Not to become a stripper, but because it looks like it would be a total riot, and what the hell, you get exercise at the same time (OK...exercise? Rethinking this as I type). My friend has the Carmen Electra DVD thing. Recently, I noticed we have a new fitness place : The First Pole Dancing class for Fitness Studio in Canada, they advertise. "Meet Your Sexy Side". Things are definitely looking up. Oh yes.

    4. My favourite ice cream is Ben & Jerry's Half Baked. Sometimes I'm salt, sometimes I'm sweet.

    5. I'm addicted to Sweet Pea body cream from Bath and BodyWorks. The only issue this really poses in my life is that the store doesn't exist in Canada. Meaning travelling over the border for lotion. Seems a bit excessive. But it smells so good!

And because it's all about me today, I will leave you with this:

And because I've been forced into this game, I will tag...

    picture of a sick kid?

OK. We're currently on puke #4. Sometimes being a parent means dealing with gross stuff. My poor lil man is sick. BUT you couldn't tell it from looking at him. Kids are so resiliant! I was convinced last night that he was all better as his mood was mighty fine. Same thing today. He still wants to have pillow fights. He still wants to jump off the couch. He still wants to play and watch movies and hang with dad. Does he want to sleep and rest and crawl into bed and chill like I would if I had the stomach flu (or whatever equally disgusting bug is currently making its way through his body)? No. We'll be hangin indoors, at least for today, with our "sick" kid.

    25 August 2005

    made art - it's done!

It's done. finished. and i love it. hope amby does too. it was fun to incorporate the efferoony dare-e-ony numero quattro as well. on my agenda today? work schmerk, some good ol' quality time with the kiddo and then some scrappin, DANG IT!!!

    24 August 2005

    finally!!!

i have not been online much lately. too freakin tired. not sure what's going on. something hormonal since i have the most giant mountain of a zit forming just to the left of my chin. most attractive and very sore. a sure sign of something awful trying to escape my body i'm sure.

onwards and forwards. had a most busy weekend and perhaps that also contributed to my lack of energy and happiness. oops. i said onwards and forwards!

last night i created. it's a long and lengthy layout that will take me a bit of time but it's soothing and getting the mojo a-flowin. have a movie date with a couple of my girls tonight but i hope to be rarin to go when i get home.

    peace out sistahs.

    18 August 2005

    tired but inspired

Funny. I was so dead tired when I got home. Barely spoke a word at the dinner table and D even asked me twice if everything was OK and once if I was mad at him. I wasn't being nasty...just quiet. But it's usually when he catches on that I know I need a few minutes alone doing something cathartic.
(***OK pause...funny story time. because I am so tired, I second guessed my choice of words there and went to look up "cathartic" in the dictionary (well, the online dictionary hee hee). The first 3 meanings had to do with laxatives and purging of the bowels. I quickly scrolled down, thinking...no...am I THAT far off base!? Nope I'm not...also emotionally purging...phew! That was a close call with seriously misusing a word!)
So, while I'm being all cathartic, sorting through my clothes for a clothes swap some friends and I are doing tomorrow, I felt tired, but somehow rejuvenated and motivated. I totally purged!! I'm taking 2 big huge bins full of clothes and shoes to swap. Yeah baby! Let's just hope I don't come home with two full bins of 'new' stuff!

And to close, I'm feeling the need to share a photo. Let me go find one.

OK it's an oldy but goody and it makes my heart smile (as AmbyN would say...smile...)

    16 August 2005

the bad blogger, running on fumes & figuring out the damn scanner

so i got one shot at the beach on friday and then the batteries died. go gen. but really, this is very much ok because i have a gazillion photos and i guarantee you i will not miss them.

i have been a bad absent blogger of late. Little reading of blogs, little time to peruse galleries...but i'm coming out of it. i think. less time on the computer = more productive, yes? no, not necessarily, although i have been participating in a scraplift challenge on LM. now, I AM getting lots done. I find it VERY easy to scraplift. I love it. I love being inspired by all sorts of different artists and friends. but, it's really made me think about the whole process for me.

I've managed to get SEVEN (yes, 7) pages done in less than a week, which feels great in terms of "wow, i accomplished a lot". it's also been a great way to get me going and really keeping my hands dirty, so to speak. because i find scraplifting fast and easy, i've been able to scrap almost every day. BUT while I'm realizing that it might be a handy tool and a fun thing to do once in a while, I look at the pages and think "they're not me". I didn't pour my heart and soul into these pages. great photos, great memories. no soul? hmmmm. i'm not sure. something to continue to ponder as i think about the next page.

i cannot BELIEVE the price of gas these days. totally ridiculous. i'm even starting to think like my girl coco j, who waits til nighttime to fill her gas tank because she says it always goes down at night. i'm usually one of those people who cannot be bothered with the hassle of leaving my house at night...especially to save just a few dollars. But $1.10 per litre of gas? You have got to be kidding me. Not that I'm quite ready to explore public transit just yet.

I finally figured out why my scans, especially of lumpy stuff, have been looking so completely awfully hideous. Two reasons:
    1. I had it sitting on the carpet beside my desk while I was scanning. Um, I know that sounds totally dumb, but there's no room on my tiny desk that barely has room for my keyboard and mouse. So I would haul my scanner out of the cupboard above my computer, sit it on the floor, plug it in, and push away. Well, god knows what made me think that perhaps the scanner should be on a flat, hard surface (can we all say DUUUUH). Working much better now.
    2. It was dirty. Like really pretty gross with glue and various bits of hair and projects from the past.

Phew! Need to update more often so I won't go on and on like I just did. If you've read my whole story, I thank you and send you much love.

    12 August 2005

    it's friday!!!

I love Fridays!!! I'm excited to spend the weekend creating, relaxing, playing, sleeping, shooting pix, chatting, and all the fun stuff that comes along with a weekend! I have mucho to do on The List - all fun stuff tho - yipee!

We're going to the beach after our power walk around the lake (have I told you about our most recent joint venture into the land of the fit??) to have fish and chips. What some good exercise without a pile of grease to follow it, afterall. Friday is cheat day for the diet though, and we haven't done the fish & chips thing at the beach yet - mmmm the best. Of course I will take my camera - don't be silly.

When Dren leaves for work tonight...if I can pull my ass off the computer chair, I'm watching SATC DVDs and makin art.

Bring on effer dare #3...I'm going to really have to think about this one. Dust off the old CD collection...I miss the packaging and art since going digital.

    Smooches lovely ladies!

    10 August 2005

    my loves

i am thinking of what i love and appreciate...on both a serious and superficial level. my mum was diagnosed with skin cancer quite recently. an isolated spot on her nose. what with the problems she and my dad are having i really feel this is entirely too much for one beauty of a mama to handle in the space of 8 months. she is so brave and so strong. because we're so close now i can read between the words and know that despite all her common-sensical language she was scared and insecure and sad and really not wanting her face hacked up. it made me cry when she told me. she wanted to tell me in person. i had been trying to pry for months as she had all these "appointments" for this or that...never being clear as to what was going on. she told me 2 days before we left for toronto. her surgery was scheduled for the 2nd - the day we were due back. we were delayed. she had to leave for the island before i could see her. i saw her yesterday for the first time. she is so happy. it went so well. she's got a red line down the side of her nose and is a bit bumpy and bruisy. normally this type of cancer spreads into the cheek and they really have to dig to get it out. not this time. so lucky. they had to go in twice to get it all, but then she was done. she's still gorgeous physically, but what is shining is her relief and happiness that the surgery went so well and that it's done and over with. i'm thankful for the miracle of modern medicine and how they were so good to my mama and saved her face.

here are some of the things i'm loving today:
•my big man•my lil man•my mama•my dad•my sisters•patterened paper(oh did i have a blast petting it and gazing at it last night - it was hot)•jack johnson tunage on itunes right now•my bed(i'm daydreaming)•water•organic sprouted beans(don't ask...i'm trying to eat healthy, i really am and i actually do love these)•the view from my window•summer•my camera•the wicked shots i get with my camera•leaving work(happening any minute)•

    love you!
(i'm just full of it today!)

    confession

OK - I was in such a rush to get those pix up yesterday and then I had to run...didn't write anything. I must confess that it all looks fine and dandy in those beauty shots, but keep in mind:

    1. Everything inside those drawers/file cabinets is a total effing (**take note: first time ever using the eff word in my blog) MESS from hell.
    2. I pulled the table (yes Missy I scrap on the table too!) and chairs out of the way to take the pictures.
    3. A lot of my crap isn't even in that area.

    SO:
    1. The pictures are a bit of a lie - just maybe a tiny bit of a misrepresentation :)
    2. I still have a lot to do.
    3. I still don't have a scrap ROOM...won't for a long time.

    BUT:
    1. It still looks kickin cool.
    2. It makes me feel really good and inspired and like creating something.
    3. I love it.

    WOOO HOOOOO TOMORROW'S HUMP DAY!!!!!

    ghetto play

This cracked me up yesterday. Apparently our building has adopted a Home Depot buggy and keeps it in the parking garage for all to use. Yesterday the kids were pushing eachother around in it, and having a total blast. They seemed to think I was a bit nuts feeling such a need to take pictures of them (what's the big deal ma?)

kids + imagination + resident HD buggy = great ghetto fun to be had by all

    06 August 2005

    finally a few photos

Photoshop decided to be my enemy last night. We battled, and I won so it died. I decided not to bring it back to life last night and instead went to bed. LOL Robyn...you won't be getting pix of the milky green cooler.

Now for a few pix from the wedding. Some of you may know that D's sister is a witch. That's right. There was talk a while back about she and her bridesmaids wearing fairy wings for the ceremony. OK then. It didn't happen (phew). I thought the whole thing might be odd, but it wasn't odd. As you can tell from her dress, she's a non-traditional kinda girl. The ceremony is called a hand-fasting, and part of it is binding the hands of the bride and groom together with rope.

JJ was absolutely amazing during the ceremony. I was so worried that he would get restless and start acting up, or see his dad up with the rest of the wedding party and feel the need to talk to him or go see him. But instead he sat through the whole thing and was an absolute angel. He rocks...he makes me so proud. At one point he was getting a bit restless/tired and he inhaled, and let out this HUGE audible siiiigh. All the guests sitting right around us, all family, got such a kick out of that. It was very cute.

Top right corner - YUM!!! Sneaking flying fish from the plate D's dad had so carefully put together. At least pretending to. D's stepmom and I were harassing dad for samples while he was cooking, driving him nuts. Flying fish is a Barbados specialty I was introduced to by this wonderful family several years ago. YUM.

Bottom right corner - the absolute gorgeous, totally affordable lanterns. They are made out of frosted Christmas lights, white paper bags, and some beautiful ribbon. Don't they look so warm and inviting and NOT cheap!!?? I think I took a gazillion photos of them, experimenting with the light and different settings on my camera. Oh - and it turns out I took over 400 shots - not over 300. Whoa dude.

The temperature was quite disgusting for our whole trip. I'm kind of a baby when it comes to the whole E. Coast humidity thing. Air conditioning is a gooood thing. We had to get J's hair cut the very first day there because his mop of curls was working against him. No worries - they'll grow back and I do think he looks quite handsome with his "shortcut" as he named it.

Today I must continue to organize and create. I'm hoping to get my space cleared up, my new piece of furniture (a small but beautiful cabinet) up, and maybe some pictures taken.

Happy Saturday all you wonderful peoples!

    05 August 2005

    sejuice

I am drinking a yummy vodka cooler right now. it's name is "sejuice". it is a passionfruit and melon cooler. it's a milky mint-green colour which is what attracted me at first ("milky" and "cooler" in my nevertobe humble opinion are two words that should not be put together). The bottle also has a pink kiss image on it. Cute. I would take a picture but I'm too lazy. I'm not sure if I like it because I've already had 3 drinks or if it's actually good. Anyway, good name.

    OK. pictures. Coming right up.

    weirdo?

Well, that's just a given I suppose - I know I'm slightly OFF :D But...I really always feel the need to clean before I can sit down and scrap. My dining room table is my scrappin home and the kitchen is right behind me. If it's a disaster I feel like I need to clean it first...and scrub the table and make everything neat and nice before I make a huge big mess on the table with all my schtuff.

What a lame-ass boring post...sorry. I promise photos later, but for now I must go be anal and then get to makin some art.

    04 August 2005

    back!!!!

I'm back and trying to get settled in. Major airline drama which sucked. We didn't get in until probably 1am last night (this morning). But we're HOME! And so thankful!!! The weather here kicks ass over the East Coast humidity that I apparently cannot handle. I'm sure I would get used to it, or at least get used to coping with it, if I had to...but I don't :P

I am so looking forward to checking out my fave blogs and I'm sure I've missed some awesome work and lots of fun.

Took over 300 pix...I suppose I should get my camera to downloading right quick.

While slightly marred by the delay getting home and no ride home from the airport, as well as more sweating than any human should ever sweat (yum, huh?) the trip really did rock, D's sister's wedding (make that wiccan handfasting, but it really wasn't too weird like a lot thought it would be) was beautiful, and his family is absolutely amazing.

Stories and photos to follow. Must read a bit, clean a bit, unpack a bit, and hopefully hopefully create a bit.

Love yall and missed you somethin fierce!!!!
